AXIS formed in late December 2008 as the trio of Johnny V, Chadwick, and Matt Lonergan. We had jammed together multiple times previously, just for the fun of it, but when the unformed band was offered a show, we decided it was time to get serious. In two weeks, we put together a half-hour set, and at our first show, at the Toms River Library\'s Mancini Hall, we were well recieved by the crowd. The crowd loved the shadows of Mystical Fudge in the music, while playing the songs in a style that made them seem revitalized. Then, we decided that we wanted to play in the High School East Talent Expo. Unfortunately, Matt L, being in college, was not allowed to play by the event organizers. So we had to find another bass player. Eventually, we found John T., a sophmore at east, who agreed to fill in just for the one show. We began practicing. Then, we played the show, and we won! The crowd loved it! We were beside ourselves with excitement. Soon after, the change in bass players became permanent, and John T. became the new bass player for AXIS.

After 2 months, we began a regular schedule of shows, at one point having shows every weekend for a month. It was during this stretch that we got our first taste of a big success: on May 16, 2009, we won 1st the Exposure music festival at the Trocadero in Philadelphia.
